Maxi Skirt, and COUPON oh my!!!

I had the pleasure of testing a very lovely maxi skirt. The Point Mugu Maxi Skirt is for ages 12 months to 14 years. Not only is it a lovely skirt, but it has a nice inspiration story behind it. I won't say too much. That would take away from the nice little blurb you get when you buy the pattern. Point Mugu is a cape in California. When I got my daughter's skirt done, I could almost imagine this skirt there next to the waves.

I think that the designer did a great job with this skirt. I think this is actually the very first maxi I have done. Yes I have patterns that have a maxi option, I just never choose that option. I loved the high quality of the pdf. You can tell she put a lot of work into it. She had very thurough and easy to follow steps, as well as pattern pieces.

The skirt came together in just a few hours, and my daughter was just so thrilled to get it. I actually couldn't get her out of it. I think the thing that I love the most about this pattern is the elastic. To be honest I hate that almost all patterns that I have come across, the elastic goes all the way around the waist. Not only is that a lot of elastic, but it's kind of bothersome to put together. This gorgeous skirt only calls for elastic on the back side of the waist band.

I also love how light and airy it is. I guess that would also have to do with your selected fabric. However I would not suggest using a heavy fabric. It has just enough ruffles to be sweet and feminine, but not enough to where it is overwhelming. For my little girl Im not fond of the maxi skirts that are plain. I like ruffles, but sometimes they can get to be overwhelming.

Overall I would say this was a 10 out of 10. Perfect for summer weather. As soon as I have the time to sit down with my machine I will be making her more for sure. Im hoping she comes out with an adult version just for me. ;) hint hint ;) Who can say.... Mommy and Me outfits!
